MOVEMENT
My Response:YowaYowa
To recreate YowaYowa's levitiation images, I captured the image of people mid-air. I did this by using a fast shutter speed and short exposure. I also experimented, by using different props and objects in the image.

Zoom Blur
I discovered how to use the zoom blur technque on my DSLR. The technique involves taking a picture with a fairly slow shutter speed, (about 1 or 2 seconds) and zooming in or out and the same time. The technique produces a blurred effect such as the ones I took below. -Zoom Blur contact sheet + extra photo

Artist Resarch: YowaYowa
Yowa Yowa is a photographer who lives in Tokyo with her two cats. She is well known for the levitation shots. Here are two examples.
In this photo YowaYowa seems to be levitating between two train platorms. The image is very effective due to the almost symmetrical platforms either side of yowayowa. The image could represent the way that life seems to be repetive and never changing.

In this photo Yowa Yowa seems to be levitating above
above a grass field. The image is quite effective as she looks very casual and The sun creates a bright morning light in her direction. |
Artist Analysis
In this image, 'GKHZ' has used a long exposure. This can be seen by the trails of light. This image is particularly effective, due to the contrasting red and white trails of light. He has presumably taken this picture on a rooftop as he is know for being an urban adventurer.
Marc Explo is a photographer from France who is known for being an urban adventurer. In this image Marc Explo has used a slow shutter speed to capture the motion of the fireworks zooming towards the curved roof of the tunnel. Trails of light can also be seen hitting of the roof. This image is also particularly effective because of the two fountains of light either side the the subject of the image. What would be seen by many as a dark dreary tunnel has been lit up by jets of light that have been captured with a slow shutter speed.
Micheal Bossanko is a notable photographer for his light trail photographs. He says his inspiration comes from his overactive imagination and the environment. He uses a Canon DSLR and varied exposures. He also uses equipment such as torches, Led's and standard household bulbs. In this image, two circles of orange sparks an be seen moving at high speeds. The sparks then reflect off the walls and roof of the tunnel. There are also white lights dotted in the background of the image.
Artist Resarch: Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman was an American photographer best known for her black and white photos featuring herself and female models. She uses very simple backgrounds such as white walls. The subject of the photo is usually blurred due to a long exposure. Her photos are usually focused on the movement between two subjects and they are usually ghost-like. Her photographs look as though they belong to a much earlier time – Woodman liked to work in old buildings where the chipped plaster and dusty floorboards lent her pictures an eerie Gothic sensibility – and her compositions are absent of modern objects.
Francesca Woodman Response Contact Sheet
I've recreated F.Woodman's 'Ghost Images' by using a slow shutter speed and getting the subject to move quickly. This makes the subject blurred and ghostlike.
Capturing Light
Michael Bossanko is a Welsh photographer, who is known primarily for his light painting photos. He has worked for companies such as TalkTalk and British Airways. He creates extremely in depth photographs that almost look unreal. To create this effect, he uses a variety of coloured L.E.D's and torches. He also captures the images with extremely slow shutter speeds such as 30 and 60 seconds. This gives him enough time to create lighting effects in the dark area that he is in.
In this image A pacman scene can be seen in a fairly old and decrepit warehouse with holes in the roof. Michael Bossanko. He has created the pacman characters by using a slow shutter speed. He has used different coloured LED's and lights. THe image is particularly effective because the multicoloured lights
